About The Artist

Pete Kemme is a contemporary realist painter from West Michigan. Pete was well known locally for his Grand Rapids cityscapes, which have been auctioned off for a wide variety of non-profit organizations, including the Children’s Assessment Center, the Grand Valley Women’s Center, and Kent County Victim Witness. In 2015 Pete was commissioned to paint a cityscape of the Grand Rapids Festival to become the annual poster design. In 2017, Pete and his family relocated to the San Francisco, California area.

Pete is a self-taught artist born and raised in Grand Haven, Michigan. He would be the first to admit that his 17 year career as a Grand Rapids police officer had nothing to do with fine art. However, his many years driving the city streets at all times of the day and night have given him insight into the wonderful city scenes of this growing community.

Pete always showed interest in fine art while growing up and he started painting in high school. Pete’s artwork is about light and how it affects the colors of the surrounding landscape.
